DeLorme GPS in Camo?
by Tim on Jun.04, 2009, under Uncategorized
One of our eagle-eyed forum members was shopping over at Wal*Mart’s online store and came across a power cable for the DeLorme PN-series GPS devices. We know that the PN-20 comes in vivid yellow, the PN-40 comes in electric orange, and the predicted PN-30 comes in green. But depicted on the box for the power [...]

by Tim on Jun.04, 2009, under Uncategorized
There are strong indications that Garmin will soon add a new series to their handheld GPS lineup. Bass Pro Shops was displaying a page for a product called the “Garmin Dakota 20″ with an associated screenshot that looked similar to the current Garmin Oregon series. The page has since been pulled from their website. Similarly, [...]

Magellan Content Manager
by Tim on May.23, 2009, under Uncategorized
Magellan has released a new software application called Content Manager (download), somewhat akin to Garmin’s WebUpdater and TomTom’s HOME applications. So far, the only method available to update the application on Magellan devices has been to download installer applications from the Magellan website and install manually.
However there are apparently some severe limitations to Content Manager. [...]

by Tim on May.13, 2009, under Uncategorized
Yesterday Gizmodo posted a piece of link-bait an article about the TomTom 740 LIVE. It was a scathing review of the device and the company. Here is why, point to point, we disagree.
First, I’ll lay down my cards and say I lost all respect for Gizmodo when Richard Blakeley brought one of those TV-B-Gone devices [...]

TomTom 740 LIVE
by Tim on May.12, 2009, under Uncategorized
The TomTom 740 Live has hit the streets, addressing many issues we’ve had with previous TomTom devices. The location of the power cable, the “inactive” mount, and lack of full voice control were all previous limitations that have been dealt with. Biggest perhaps is that you are no longer forced to choose between two evils [...]

by Tim on May.08, 2009, under Uncategorized
As noted earlier today in our Garmin Nuvi forums Garmin is now offering a larger selection of maps available for download instead of just purchasing in SD card or DVD. Maps include those previously available, as well as new types of maps such as the cityXplorer maps.
The cityXplorer maps are designed for those exploring unfamiliar [...]

Seeking iPhone navigation developer in Amsterdam
by Tim on May.08, 2009, under Uncategorized
We’ve talked numerous times about TomTom for the iPhone based on communications from within TomTom, our own speculation, and the speculation of others. But say you had a background as an iPhone developer and were living in Amsterdam. Also, let’s say you had an affinity for navigation software. Then you might just want to check [...]
