Strange & chinese chracters showing in titles & gps stalling for 10 seconds

by Nflder on Sep.17, 2009, under GPS, RDS TMC, TomTom

Upon touching "Recently Found" my Nuvi 750 stalls or locks up then shows the screen list of locations but one or two in the list shows a location followed by odd characters - Chinese/Arabic or a lower case, an "a" inside a circle or a couple of thin "T" or a couple of "d" inside brackets "(d)". This does not occur on each displayed location only one or two. If the next screen (down arrow) is touched and there are no unusual characters in any of the names on that screen, it updates quickly but any screen with unusual characters is delayed 8 - 10 seconds. Almost like it is searching for the character to display it.

I am concerned that this may be a precursor to a more serious problem and I want to head it off.... Any suggestions?

I have read that there is no way to reboot the 750! Is this correct? I've tried holding the on/off button in the on position but it only turns on then off after several seconds. I've tried touching & holding each corner of the screen while turning on and only the right lower corner works by asking me if I really want to erase all user data.

Broken Antenna on my Quest II

by JH41 on Sep.17, 2009, under GPS, RDS TMC, TomTom

Before I go through the hassle of digging up receipts, calling Garmin's tech line for an RMA and then finally packing it all up and shipping it off...

I'm wondering if anyone knows what kinda $$ I should expect to pay to repair my little Quest II's antenna.:idunno:

Some folks (who shall remain nameless) seem to think that I needed to upgrade anyway. But I dont want to pay what I consider a ludicrous amount for the Zumo I really want.:hmm:

thoughts? :allears:

by jkpimp on Sep.16, 2009, under GPS, RDS TMC, TomTom

Hello, I am using some random brand Maxtek MNT-7T. The connector come off and I don't know where I can find a replacement. Anyone know where I can find it? If not...do you think I can use one of those USB GPS receiver to replace this antenna? i am not sure it will work because apparently, they will need a windows driver to run, correct?

vancouver’s north shore

by supermonster on Sep.16, 2009, under GPS, RDS TMC, TomTom

hello everyone...i'm new to this fourm.

i'v been using a explorist 500 for 2 years and just yesterday i got the "NAND" message when i turned on the unit.

i contacted Magellan "so-called" customer service 1800 number and got no help from them on how to fix this problem:rant:. ...all they wanted to do was sell me a new GPS .

that was not good enought for me so i started to Google an answer...and i found one. i have since reloaded the basemap and my GPS is back to normal (without help from Magellan :evilaugh: ).

i do have other questions about this unit, but i will search for answers before posting them.
